    Functional Dry Needling:
Dry Needling is a general term for a therapeutic treatment procedure that involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the area of the body which produces pain and typically contains a 'Trigger Point’. There is no injectable solution and typically the needle which is used is very thin. Dry needling is an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, rehabilitation from injury, and even pain and injury prevention, with very few side effects.

    Manual Therapy:
Manual therapy is a hand’s on approach where therapists have the ability to manipulate the human body. Manual therapy includes soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, manual stretching techniques, manual strengthening, neuromuscular reeducation and muscle energy techniques. Dr. Karen Bonney utilizes a variety of manual techniques to improve patient outcomes.

    Joint Mobilization:
Joint mobilizations are critical in restoring range of motion to an area of restriction. Licensed physical therapists will use joint mobilizations through a graded process that varies based on pain tolerance and acuity of the condition. This manual technique ultimately leads to a quicker return to normal motion and function.

    Soft Tissue Mobilization:
Soft tissue mobilization is the assessment, treatment, and management of dysfunction. Soft tissue mobilization can be used to relieve myofascial trigger points, reduce swelling and inflammation, relax tight areas, and promote healing. Dr. Karen Bonney is trained in a variety of techniques including myofascial release, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, trigger point therapy, etc.

    Functional Movement Screening (FMS):
Functional movement screening is an assessment tool to observe human movement through a ranking and grading system and is performed by a licensed physical therapist who is certified in FMS. Particularly useful for athletes, this screening technique allows your therapist to assess where your body is strongest and weakest in order to provide optimal recovery program.

    Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA):
Is a series of 7 full-body movement tests designed to assess fundamental patterns of movement such as bending and squatting in those with known musculoskeletal pain. This type of assessment allows your therapist to identify meaningful impairments that be seemingly unrelated to the main musculoskeletal complaint, but contribute to the associated disability. This standard clinical model is performed by a therapist who is certified in SFMA and ensures effective isolation of the cause of injury and allows for an efficient plan of care.

    Neuromuscular Re-Education:
Dr. Karen Bonney will utilize a specialized technique to restore normal movement. Muscle movement patterns are affected when nerves or muscles experience damage or injury. Neuromuscular reeducation is one method to facilitate the return of normal movement in persons with neuromuscular impairments.

    Therapeutic Activity:
Dr. Karen Bonney will include various routines that uses dynamic activities to improve functional performance in a progressive manner. These activities are usually directed at a loss or restriction of mobility, strength, balance or coordination.
